About Ananse Stroke, a West African Writing System

Ananse Keyboard is a personalized symbol-language writing platform created by The Ananse Stroke Foundation. It brings Ananse Stroke, a West African writing system, to the web, iPhone, and Android.

Four letter families

Twenty letters are organized into Vowel, Bilabial, Alveolar, and Velar sound families. Each family shares a head shape, while the position of a mark identifies the letter.

A complete writing experience

Writers can use Family, QWERTY, and stroke layouts; choose Print or Cursive writing; customize glyph designs and ink colors; use predictions and number marks; and save or share their writing.

Private communication in the Ananse apps

The native Ananse apps support live end-to-end encrypted private conversations. System keyboard extensions type into other apps, but they do not read or encrypt conversations in third-party services.
